What is Ganirelix ?

Ganirelix acetate is an injectable gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist. It is marketed under the brand names Orgalutran and Antagon. Primarily used in assisted reproduction, Ganirelix helps regulate ovulation by preventing premature egg release during fertility treatments.

Ganirelix Uses

Ganirelix is used in fertility treatments, specifically controlled ovarian stimulation. It is often combined with other hormones like FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). By blocking the release of luteinizing hormone (LH), Ganirelix prevents eggs from being released too early, allowing them to mature properly.

How to Use Ganirelix

  • Read Instructions: Follow the leaflet or prescription instructions provided by your pharmacist or doctor.
  • Preparation and Administration: Learn the preparation and administration steps from your healthcare professional.
  • Check for Discoloration: Inspect the product for any discoloration or damage before use.
  • Inject as Directed: Administer the injection under the skin as prescribed, typically once daily during a specific phase of your cycle.
  • Clean Injection Site: Clean the injection site properly before each dose. Rotate sites to prevent skin injury.
  • Follow Dosage Guidelines: Use the medication exactly as directed by your doctor, without increasing the dose or frequency.

How Does Ganirelix Work?

Ganirelix blocks GnRH receptors, quickly and reversibly suppressing the secretion of gonadotropins. It particularly suppresses LH more than FSH. After stopping Ganirelix, LH and FSH levels recover within 48 hours.
