Zilactin, sold under the brand name Benzocaine, is a local anesthetic used to relieve pain from minor mouth problems by numbing the affected area.
Zilactin Uses
Benzocaine is used for short-term relief of pain from minor mouth problems such as toothache, canker sores, sore gums/throat, and mouth/gum injuries. It is not recommended for children under 2 years old due to the risk of serious side effects.
How to Use
Follow the package directions or use as prescribed by your doctor.
Do not use more than 4 times a day unless directed by your doctor.
Allow the medication to remain in the painful area for at least 1 minute before spitting out or rinsing the mouth.
Avoid using large amounts or more often than directed to prevent serious side effects, including rarely fatal methemoglobinemia.
Avoid contact with eyes.
Stop use and consult your doctor if symptoms persist or worsen, or if you experience severe sore throat, sore mouth lasting more than 7 days, fever, headache, rash, swelling, nausea, or vomiting.
